WTCI Receives 3-Star Rating from Charity Navigator
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.—July 16, 2009. WTCI has recently received a 3-star rating for fiscal management from Charity Navigator, an organization that works to ensure charitable donations go to efficient non-profits worthy of support. Also a non-profit, Charity Navigator uses a team of professional analysts to evaluate non-profit financial documents and rate organizations on a scale of one to four stars, with one being the lowest. The rating system examines two areas of a charity or organization’s financial health: the first is how the organization functions on a day-to-day basis and the second is how the organization has positioned itself to sustain its programs over time. WTCI’s rating has moved from 1-star to 3-stars over the last three years, demonstrating WTCI’s dedication to sound fiscal management.
“We are honored to have received the 3-star rating from Charity Navigator as a result of our thorough fiscal management,” said Paul Grove, President and CEO of WTCI. “WTCI’s board, staff and volunteers work diligently to ensure every dollar we spend supports programming and outreach services that make a difference in our community and helps us achieve our core mission: to educate, engage and inspire a lifetime of learning and exploration.”
Charity Navigator is a consulting device used by donors to search organizations and charities to examine how strong they are financially. The service provides tables, charts and other financial information about the income and expenses of the non-profit. Last year alone, nearly five million donors consulted Charity Navigator’s 5,400 charity ratings for guidance in distributing more than $10 billion in donations. Even though Charity Navigator is a non-profit, they do not accept donations from the charities they evaluate in order to remain unbiased.
“I congratulate WTCI for receiving Charity Navigator’s 3-star rating for sound fiscal management,” said Ken Berger, Charity Navigator’s President and CEO. “This rating indicates that WTCI exceeds or meets industry standards for its financial health and performs a well as or better than most of its peers.”
