WTCI Be More Awards™ Luncheon Honoring All Non-Profits
with Keynote Speaker, Judy Woodruff, March 3, 2010

The inaugural WTCI Be More Awards ™ have been created to recognize excellence in our local nonprofit community. WTCI, in partnership with Allied Arts and United Way's Center for Nonprofits, is proud to bring to light those who share our commitment to offer everyone opportunities to “Be More”. We are committed to offering people from all walks of life the chance to broaden their horizons, explore new ideas and realize their potential—in other words to Be More.

The Be More Awards ™ are offered in six categories, each honoring a different aspect of local commitment and success at making a positive difference in the lives of those in our local community.

Partnership Award: Strong partnerships are critical to nonprofit organizations and help all those involved leverage resources and broaden their community impact in unique ways. This award recognizes an organization that has extended its reach into the community by developing meaningful partnerships. Example includes an organization that collaborates with other organizations to diversify its volunteer base.

Innovation Award: Creativity and innovation set many nonprofits apart and develop successful models for others to adopt. This award recognizes an organization that displays the most imaginative and creative use of original ideas to achieve organizational goals. Examples include resourcefulness (i.e. limited budget) in creating a new project, program, or event, or developing a unique and inventive method to bring a particular initiative to fruition.

Local Service Award: Nonprofits are often created to respond to a unique community need. This award recognizes an organization that has responded to a community need and is making a significant difference in the community as measured by specific outcomes and by participation in its programs. Example includes an organization that demonstrates qualitative and quantitative outcomes.

Educational Outreach Award: Nonprofit organizations provide a variety of educational services to the community. This award recognizes an organization that strives to educate the community through guidance, knowledge, and/or a mentorship program. Examples include a program/project aimed at improving specific aspects of community life and introducing and/or conducting community enrichment programs.

Individual Leadership Award: Community volunteers often lead behind the scenes without the need for recognition. This award recognizes an individual who is a leader and visionary and is willing to take risks to make a difference in the community.

People’s Choice Award: PBS and WTCI are a service by the public, for the public. That is why this prestigious award recognizes the local organization that is most connected to the community and the people it serves. Through online voting, local citizens decide which organization, from a pool of nominees chosen by the judges, they feel most exemplifies the spirit of the community. Nominees will be announced January 22.
