A Good Story

There is nothing more powerful to me than a good story—told in a way that challenges me to think about the world around me and how I fit within that world. And that is why I have chosen a career in public broadcasting. Every day, we put programs on the air that tell inspiring, engaging and informative stories about our community, nation and world. I can imagine no better place to work than WTCI because we get to help bring you trusted programs that make a difference in your life.

This month, we are proud that WTCI is launching a new primetime program block of locally produced programs on Thursday nights with the premiere of the 17th season of the Mid-South Emmy-nominated series Southern Accents and a new interview series, The A List with Alison Lebovitz. Both programs not only highlight exciting people and places in our community and region, they also help forward our goal of being the community’s storyteller. With the rich history of Chattanooga and our region, there are many stories to be told in our community, and WTCI is a leader in uncovering and telling these unique stories.

Since coming on board at WTCI nearly three years ago, it has been our goal to expand our local programs because, as a PBS station, our connection within the community is what makes us different and vital to the members who support us. When I am out in the community, viewers love to tell me about a program that has inspired or changed them. One such moment occurred when HEROES FROM THE VALLEY debuted in fall 2007. One of the veterans interviewed for the documentary passed away before the project was completed, and his family members had never heard his stories of World War II. His family was so thankful that we had documented stories they would have never had a chance to hear. It was a powerful moment for me and our production staff to realize how important this production was for our community.

As we look ahead in 2009, we will continue our quest to tell the stories of our community, and we invite you to share your input and thoughts on our local productions on our website, wtciTV.org. We love to hear from our viewers and look forward to engaging and inspiring you!
