A Message from WTCI
As I look ahead to WTCI’s 40th anniversary next year, it’s gratifying to know that children’s programming is still one of the cornerstones of our service to the Tennessee Valley. That’s why you see nearly 60-hours of educational children’s programming each week on your community station. WTCI is proud to be presenting new, fun, and educational series that are sure educate and entertain children. PBS children’s programming has an unmatched lineup of shows that tap into a child’s ability to learn through fun.
This programming embodies WTCI’s values of education and engagement by giving parents and care givers tools for early education that is so critical to a lifetime of learning and development. These learning opportunities are made available to ALL children in our viewing area through the continued support of our donors and the unflagging energy and creativity of those at PBS who produce these programs. Through these programs, we help ensure that children have the chance to build knowledge, critical thinking, imagination and curiosity.
I’ve had more than one person reveal to me that PBS was one of, if not the only daytime programming they were allowed to watch when they were young. Some classics such as Sesame Street and Electric Company are still teaching today’s young generation. They are joined by a newer line up of programs such as the all-new Dragon Train, Sid the Science Kid and Super Why that continue to explore the growing body of knowledge, particularly in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math—areas of critical importance our ever more tech-savvy world. For example, the Dragon Train introduces children to the concept of a hypothesis. I don't think I heard that word before junior high—PBS kids will learn that concept early.
American culture is overflowing with opportunities for exploration, learning, and discovery. WTCI is committed to enriching the lives and learning of our community’s children. We are striving to be more than just TV. We want to be a positive influence, creating the leaders of the future.
Children of all ages are constantly learning something new when they watch WTCI. I know that it’s a safe place for our boys and it’s one of the reasons why I feel so good when I talk to people, whether at Church or at our little league park or a community event about working for our community’s PBS station.
Thank you for allowing us to serve you and the children in your lives.
